Stimulating Job Growth.  Shaping the Future.

People and businesses and jobs are coming to Hidalgo County.  We are one of the fastest growing communities in America.  But to sustain job growth, and keep our economy expanding, we need adequate transportation infrastructure.  When transportation slows, job growth slows.  The NAFTA trucks crossing the border into Hidalgo County are bringing great economic opportunities.  But they are also delivering congestion.

The Hidalgo Loop

The county’s Regional Mobility Authority (RMA) has decided to build a $700 million dollar toll road to sustain job and economic growth.  Trucks will be able to quickly deliver freight in the county or to northern cities by using the proposed Hidalgo Loop.  Shippers won’t be looking for shortcuts in other border cities.  And local roads will be less crowded and safer for passenger vehicles.  Which means more commerce, more jobs, and more prosperity for everybody.

Local Funding.  Local Control.

Building the Hidalgo Loop requires innovation.  And commitment.  TxDOT has no money for the county’s projects.  But the RMA and local leadership have developed a funding plan to build the loop.  Reliance on the state is ended.  And the revenue generated by truck and car tolls on the loop stays in the county.  It benefits local taxpayers – not foreign investors - by also funding future transportation needs.  We build the road.  We own it.  We benefit from it.
